Philip Island

Nachdem wir den Abstecher westwärts zur Great Ocean Road abgeschlossen haben, gehtś nun endgültig Richtung Osten. Wir fahren der Küste
entlang zurück zur Bellarine Halbinsel und setzen von Queenscliff, einem kleinen, viktorianisch geprägten Städtchen über die Meerstraße Victory Bright,
wo die Port Philip Bay ins offene Meer mündet, über. So sparen wir uns den neuerlichen Umweg über Melbourne und landen direkt auf der Mornington Halbinsel,
wo wir die ersten Koalas besuchen. Danach gehtś weiter nach Philip Island wo wir u.a. die Penguin Parade genießen, ein Strand an dem tausende kleine Pinguine nach Sonnenuntergang vom Fischen in Ihre nester zurückkehren...

Now that we have completed the detour westwards to the Great Ocean Road, we are finally heading east. We drive along the coast back to the
Bellarine Peninsula and cross over from Queenscliff, a small Victorian town, via the Victory Bright,where Port Philip Bay flows into the open sea.
This saves us another detour via Melbourne and lands us directly on the Mornington Peninsula, where we visit the first koalas.
We then continue to Philip Island where we enjoy the Penguin Parade, a beach where thousands of little penguins return from fishing to their nests after sunset...

Vom etwas höher gelegenen Arthurs Seat Aussichtspunkt sieht man über die Bucht bis zur Victory Bight. Unten am Strand sieht man den McCrae Leuchtturm.
From the slightly higher Arthurs Seat viewpoint, you can see across the bay to Victory Bight. Down on the beach you can see the McCrae lighthouse.

Durch den höher gelegenen Standort kann man auch die Skyline von Melbourne rund 50km weit im Norden jetzt sehr gut sehen!
Thanks to the higher location, you can now also clearly see the Melbourne skyline around 50km to the north!.

Auf dem Weg weiter Richtung Philip Island besuchen wir den Maru Koala&Animal Park, einen kleinen Privatzoo in dem man die heimischen Tiere erleben kann.
On the way to Philip Island we visit the Maru Koala & Animal Park, a small private zoo where you can experience the native animals.

Hier chillt ein kleiner Joey im Beutel seiner Mutter - so werden die jungen Kängurus liebevoll von den Australiern genannt.

Auf der Weiterfahrt machen wir Pause bei San Remo an der Brücke nach Philips Island - hier sonnen sich ein paar Pelikane.

Auf Philip Island zieht es uns dann zum Philip Island Nature Park - einen großen Park mit frei laufenden Koalas.
